I am looking to relocate to a nice area. I have been looking at loads of websites (Best Place to Live; Best Market Towns; Best Villages, etc) but I just keep getting more and more confused. Currently I live near Manchester, so I guess anywhere is better! I am hampered in my choice in that I dont want to be too far away from my family - if this was not the case then I'd be off to Devon, Dorset or Cornwall. Thanks for your help.
i used to live in harpenden and have very found memories, but it depends on what you want!

( Sea, lovely countryside, lively areas, great crowds, and lovely places to have brilliant picnics)

Thame can be a bit rough - not bad by Manchester standards but I'd avoid it. It is however right on the M40
I used to live near Winchester (Alresford). If you can afford it it is very nice.

Crowded in the summer and a nightmare to park as a lot of the roads in the city are permit.

One of the outlying towns or villages are also nice with some excellent schools. Be carefull looking on the internet though as some of the 'towns' close by have become suburbs with no real sole to them.
