i want to take Mr MiniN away for our anniversary next weekend somewhere (b&b, hotel, etc) in the countryside to just relax together ;-).

we live in the North West, does anyone have a suggestion where to go? we don't mind a bit of driving.

we were thinking along the lines of South/mid wales. can anyone recommend anywhere either in wales or anywhere else that they have enjoyed?

most places i have found are awash with ghastly 1980's flowery wallpaper/carpet/bedspreads....

How about the Lake District.
Agree with The Lakes- beautiful, beautiful place and at this time of year it will be a heck of a lot quieter than what it is in the summer, plus with the added advantage of more countryside than you can shake a stick at.

My only other advice is take a jumper or 50- it'll be ruddy cold!
i would say get as far south as possible if its easter weekend. Forecast is bad for the weekend with subzero temps up north.
Lakes, definitely! Where in NW are you MiniN? We are in South Cumbria. There is such an array of places to eat, sleep and see! Love it :)

I booked my parents a break in a lovely hotel near Kendal. Can't for the life of me remember its name, but there are lots of really lovely hotels and b & bs, and they aren't all straight from the set of Fawlty Towers!

Have a lovely time whatever you decide xx

Red - its actually next month, that we'll be going away, so hopefully it will be fairly quiet wherever we go.

we've been to the Lakes a few times and we love it but we thought we might try somewhere different maybe.
I don't blame you for giving the Lakes a miss, beautiful thought they are, it's a bit close to home. I definitely head to Wales there are some lovely places there, what about the Llyn peninsula or somewhere in Pembrokeshire?
Hi, MiniN.

Have a look on here: www.cottages4you.com

We've stayed in the Mansion Cottage in the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Brook Cottage (nr. Bourton-on-the-Water) in the Cotswolds and loved them both. It was around this time last year, too- they were really reasonable Hope you have a lovely time away together. :)
