my system has taken to cutting out and being difficult to relight, it remained on for 6 weeks and has suddenly gone off again. I can relight it but it doesn't stay on for more than a few hours. It is a baxi boiler of a certain age but has ben regularly serviced. I have home cover from the gas board but the last engineer that came seemed to know little about the system ,requiring help to get the front off!I have an enginer coming on Monday but should he be equally clueless can anyone suggest in what direction he should be directed???

Could be that the thermocouple is on the way out. This usually goes every 5 years or so, symptoms are the pilot light failing to stay on for more than a few mins.
The pilot light may need adjusting so it plays on the thermocouple properly, Or as pug100 sugested change the thermocouple.
