New Boiler Using Gas When Not In Use

I had a new central heating system fitted earlier this year, a condensing boiler.
Should this boiler be using any gas when not in use, i.e during the day when I am at work? I have been reading my gas meter each day, if i turn the boiler off, no gas is used, if I leave the hot water turned to "on", it uses some gas.

Is this right?

Is it a combi boiler? It may have a comfort setting......this will heat a cylinder of water (about 10 litres) which is stored within the boiler for immediate demand use...this is kept at a constant temperature throughout the day. This setting may be optional.
My Combi boiler uses gas when not in use for the same reason that Bright Spark gives mine is a Worcester Greenstar 28i. It also means you save water as the water is hotter straight away and you do not have to run water until hot.
press the ECO button, if it has one. That stops it 'firing up' from time to time.
mine doesnt but my ma-in-laws fires every so often for no apparent reason...
must try the ECO button then..only problem is its in the loft !!!
