My dryer was smoking like crazy. It is in the basement and I was in the second floor apt with the new tenant who was moving some stuff in and we smelled it. Nothing caught on fire thankfully, but I will be buying a new one. It was not the lint trap, but the unit itself. This is one of my worst fears and I am still a little shaky. Thanfully the tenant is the uncle of a good friend and he was here with my friend's dad. They shut the gas off. I know they would not leave me in an unsafe situation, but I keep going to the basement checking for smoke. No sleep for me tonight!

When K Jnr was little (about 18 mths, if I remember correctly), I put some washing in my trusty machine & we went out. When we got home, I reckon we just about averted disaster, as the machine's stat had gone haywire & it was boiling everything! If we'd left it any longer, I think it would've blown up! We ditched that machine & got a new one (which lasted almost 16 yrs, so I can't complain). I know how you feel, Eng Teach!! K xx

Thanks for all your suggestions. I feel a new one is the way to go. I should be able to find one for about 4-5 hundred dollars. Not small change, but will feel better with a new one and mom left us a bit and this will come from that. (Thanks MOM) Sometimes I fell cursed. I am generally a positive person, but sometimes enough is enough.

Hi EngTeach. I think you would be better with a new one, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm the same when it comes to appliances, it's a horrible feeling when that happens makes you go all shakey.Might be a thought to put a smoke detector down there, just for your own peace of mind.
