Broken kettle?

I have a "jug" type round glass kettle that sits on a base. I picked it up (the kettle) today and there was something loose rattling around in the bottom of the kettle- the silver bit not the jug bit.. Do you think it is dangerous to use it now? Should I just get a new one?
