My sister has been asked to be a Godparent to a friend's child, the only problem is she is not christened. Can she still be a Godparent?

Good question, I always thought you had to be, thats why sometimes in Soaps you see the godparent being christened just before.
yes you do have to be baptised as they call it these days not christened as i was...Very odd. Anyway I had two sets for my daughter & aslong as one in the couple is christened/baptised they both can be god parents. However both couples ar now split up ...so maybe it was cursed.
I've got a few godchildren....and I've never been asked!
I am a Godparent to two, and i havent been christened, and was never asked if i had been .
I think you're supposed to. However, my younger sister has just been asked for my brother's baby daughter, but are finding it difficult to get an appropriate double-christening date.... he was obviously suprised when I told him that I hadn't been christened and yet I'm my nephew's godmother....

CHURCH OF ENGLAND

Church law stipulates that a godparent should ideally have been baptised and confirmed, but discretion is often used to allow a godparent to stand even if he or she has not been confirmed, as long as they have been baptised.

If you stand as a Godparent and have not been baptised - it is seen that you are miss-leading the church and the child being baptised.

Before the baptism itself parents and godparents are asked to answer these questions, to declare their desire to be a godparent and their intention to do their best to fulfill their duties:

Will you pray for them (the children), draw them by your example into the community of faith and walk with the in the way of Christ?
With the help of God we will.

Will you care for them (the children) and help them take their place within the life and worship of Christ’s Church?
With the help of God we will.

They are then asked these six questions which they all answer together:

Do you reject the devil and all rebellion against God?
I reject them.

Do you renounce the deceit and corruption of evil?
I renounce them.

Do you repent of the sins that separate us from God and neighbour?
I repent of them.

Do you turn to Christ as Saviour?
I turn to Christ.

Do you submit to Christ as Lord?
I submit to Christ.

Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life?
I come to Christ.

I hope all this helps.
