Have just stripped off wallpaper and want to apply emulsion. Any suggestions for getting rid of the old paste on the walls.

There are numerous enzyme based paste removers available at most DIY stores, at least here in the U.S., but I've had just as good fortune from 1/2 Cup of dish detergent, 1/2 Cup of liquid fabric softener and a five gallon pail of warm water. Be sure to have a standby five gallon pail of clean warm water to rinse thoroughly. In addition I use Scotchbrite pads and lots of elbow grease... Best of luck!
It's a task I would think twice about. Re-papering with lining paper before applying emulsion would be the preferred option every time.
