I can hear scurrying under my floorboards and I'm assuming it's mice. There are no large holes that I can see but that doesn't mean they're not coming into the house. What can I do? Would the floorboards have to come up? Many thanks!

You should call an exterminator, they might be able to handle it without ripping out the flooring.
We had a problem with mice, tried everything except poison, eventually, we bought a pack of 'Mouse and Rat Repellers', these are the type that you plug into sockets, four in a pack, cost about 25-00, it did the trick, so it wes worth it, we bought them from this place.

I was told that mice do not need a Tom and Jerry size hole to enter and leave by. Infact the guy looking carried round a hollow bic biro and said that if a hole was that diameter or larger it was big enough. Your local council can put you in touch with a terminator for such things and you benefit from a group rate type reduction.
Get a mouse repeller - it will go through the wires in the walls so you wont need to worry about ripping your house apart!! I've had mine for 6 months now and no scurrying since. They are also meant to come in during the winter because it is warm, still haven't seen any!

oops, link doesn't work! my son taught me how to do all this stuff and I still get it wrong - too high tech for me:P http://www.primrose-london.co.uk
i've had this exact same problem for over a year. you need to get top of the line electromagnetic repeller (i'm using the pest-stop 2000). the device sends out a wave throughout the electrical wires in your house - but you likely have no wires under your floorboards, and simply plugging the device in may not send out enough wave to send your mouse packing.

here's the fix: buy a 50 meter spool of extension cable. plug the device into the spool itself, and then run the cable all over the floor where the mouse likes to live. the waves travel through the floorboard to about 1.5 feet (1 meter total, but down is the only direction you're concerned about).

when people curse these electronic repellers, it's most likely that they don't have enough wiring near the mouse to make much of a difference.
