where on the stem do you cut roses

When prunning roses, the cut should be just above a bud and sloping slightly towards it, this will direct energy into the bud, if a long stub is left above the bud it will die back to that bud and possibly futher, its also a good idea to select an outward facing bud to maintain an open centre to the rose bush, any dead wood should be cut out too.
