I have recently had a new ceramic hob put in and have been using it happily for a few weeks. This week I have noticed that the ring I use most now has a silvery sheen to it. No matter how much I clean it, it won't go back to its original black shade like the rest of the hob. It looks like I have sprinkled sliver glitter on it. Please can you let me know what is causing this and is there anything I can do to remove this silver sheen? Thanks

My hob is 5 years old and when I first had it I cleaned it religously with special cleaners, then conditioned it with hob conditioners.

I know exactly what you mean - you can see these marks but can't feel them with your finger tips.

Try this - don't be scared!

Take a stainless steel cleaner, wet it in your washing up water and rub the hob vigorously for a few minutes. It will not scratch in any way.

Dry with kitchen towel or cloth - and it will be gone!

I think it is probably a reaction to salt water when your pan splashes.

Hi Ethel, Thanks for the reply. When you say a stainless steel cleaner, do you mean a scouring pad or a specific stainless steel cream? I am so keen to get rid of the silvery sheen I will try anything! Thanks

This is the sort of thing I mean:

(others are available!)

I used to use HobBrite - it is good - but when I ran out I had to make do without for a few days, and found my hob still looked good.
I haven't used a special cleaner for more than 4 years (on my hob) and it still looks as good as new.
