I went shopping for curtains and blinds today and came home with neither.

I need a 2.58m drop for my curtains and there were no ready made ones that lomng. The made to measure ones for £350 each pair and I need four. This was in Dunelm.

Does anyone know where I can find long curtains at a reasonable price?

Probably not much call for long curtains like you need. I think you'll have to bite the bullet and pull out your wallet. Have you tried some local person who might do a deal?
I bought lounge and bedroom curtains from Scotts, pleased with them, wolf.

I didn't check if they had your requirements, tbh ;)
I got some really long ones from IKEA.

Choux, some of those are gorgeous but far too short.

Atheist, the windows are almost the same height as the walls. I'm not paying £1,200 for curtains. I think I need to learn how to sow. :-)
If I was in your position, I'd ask a dress alteration shop how much they'd charge to shorten 274cm curtains to 258cm ones. If the price is reasonable, I'd then head back to Dunelm to look for some cheapish 274cm curtains, as that appears to be a standard size.

An alternative source of good quality long curtains, which could then be shortened, is, of course charity shops - but I shouldn't need to tell you that! (Most of the curtains in my house came from charity shops).

This Dunelm link filters results by 'longer drops', so that you can search for 274cm ones more easily:
https://www.dunelm.com/category/home-and-furniture/curtains-and-blinds/curtains/all-ready-made-curtains?f_attributes.productDescriptiveAttributes.ExtendedSizes=Longer+Drops

Needle & Thread clothing alterations are at 11 North Methven Street. Their phone number is 01738 248232 or you could try an email to [email protected]
(The comments on their Facebook page include references to curtain alterations)

An alternative shop is Clothing Alterations, at 79 South Methven St. The phone number is a mobile one, 07394 428595.

LJ, I am getting furniture from Ikea and will have a look at their curtains there. Thanks for the suggestion.
There don't appear to be any curtains as long as the ones that you want on the Ikea website, Wolfie. Sorry :(
Don't know if this is any good to you Wolfy, but I got some from the link below after Lynne recommended them to me & I'm very happy with them. If you need them urgently, it's probably not for you as the few I've had a *quick* look at seem to be 2-3 week delivery, but I guess it might depend what your choice is.

Hover on "Made to Measure" (top-left), click "Curtains", refine by colour, material etc & then fill the form in (width, drop, top type etc) for a quote.

Chris and Mr Lion
Thanks for your input. I have to admit at being shocked at the price of curtains.

Chris - I might have to get the longer ones and get them adjusted. I want nice ones for the lounge but main bedroom I just want them covered.
LIK, Lynne would not have spent money on sub standard goods so I will look at the site when I get home from work tomorrow.
Its getting real now. Electricians are in Wednesday, bathroom quote and decorators next week and I move.

I'm also a bit scared too!

You'll be alright wolf :) I take it you're excited?

Dizmo, I'm 60 this year and I've lived in this flat for 33 years.

If it wasn't for the stairs I would stay here forever. There are two flights to the front door and the flat is on two levels, the stairs in the flat are hell to walk down.

The neurological damage caused by long term Lithium use makes me unstable on my feet. The new flat is more central and on the first floor.

I am excited but I just want to get all the organising finished.

How are you and Mrs Diz doing? I won't be back online until tomorrow afternoon so don't think that I am ignoring you if you reply. :-)
It's alright, I'm not going to be about much myself either. I can't go into the reason why on here but you have me on FaceBook if you want a chat.

We had to move because of my OH's physical disabilities so I know how you feel. There's nothing worse than having to move from a place you feel comfortable. I know I couldn't handle another move.
Be wary of buying curtains from Ikea, I once bought a book!

My IKEA curtains go from ceiling to floor and I still had to put the hems up as they were a bit too long. Did this with hand sewing.
Dunelm are pretty good, they can order non standard sizes but if this is going to be your hopefully forever home now it's worth getting what you really want if you can scrape the money together. It might mean cutting back elsewhere but you will spend a lot of time in your sitting room. Just looked at Tonys textiles I thought I recognised the name. They do have some very cheap curtains. Pretty standard designs and it would be very easy to take them up. . Remember the designer way with very heavy curtains is to have at least 6" trailing on the floor. This is called puddling.

Pasta, I never considered Amazon. I hate shopping on my Kindle so I will have a look tomorrow.

The problem seems to be that 229cm seems to be the longest ready made curtains are made in general. I need much longer ones.

Amazon has longer ones...mostly solid colours by the looks of it.
B&Q may be able to sell you shorter windows...
