Both of us are 70,and finding it very difficult getting out of the bath (even when we assist each other)
We live in (Private) rented accommodation,we would prefer a shower(to replace the bath),but cannot afford to have one installed. The landlord will not pay for one.
Any suggestions?

It appears that money is the issue and the landlord doesn't help ... having spent more years than I can remember installing adaptions an aids for the vulnerable and disabled, sadly your story is quite common. My position was funded by Local councils, Social Services, and the Police. I had the luxury of a credit card with a very high limit and when I came across...

Can you not Get Floor to ceilling / Wall Grab Bars fitted?
Question Author
Thanks for the idea, but grab bars would require building works(a no~no for the Landlord) and it's getting out(standing up) from the bath that is the problem.I really need an alternative to the bath,or an easier way of rising up after bathing. We did look at those bath aids(where a seat lowers into the bath) but being on a State Pension they are just out of reach.
Depending on your ability Occupational Health may be of help.

Thank you Buenchico,
The bath board looks interesting.Sadly our taps are at the far "wrong",not wall end of the bath so the shower hose we already have(rubber with grips) tends to spray water all over the floor, but I shall investigate.
I had a similar thing to this fitted for my mother when she was in her seventies, she used it every day for the rest of her life and died in her late eighties. It was brilliant!

Contact your local council ..adaptations ie grab bars..rails etc can be provided and fitted free..social works dept
Your local council should be able to help you,get I touch with an occupational therapist

Murraymints,Thanks, but our Landlord is adamant that no structural work can be done.

What sort of price are talking about, all the ones that we have seen are out of our reach moneywise.
fitting a few rails does not compromise the structure as they can be removed
Question Author
I know that Murraymints, but tell the Landlord.
The Roof to Floor takes in 4 Deep screws that go into the Beam of the room, the bars are not un sightly & Chrome, & can be removed the holes plugged / painted same as the floor.
I think you should contact Age UK the charity for elderly people and take advice stating that your landlord will not allow adaptations to make life easier and safer for you both. Life will only get harder as you get older!

TWR
Our cottage is listed Grade2,but apart from that our Landlord is neurotic about anything in the walls, even nails/screws for pictures!
This will lower you into the bath and raise you out of it again, and requires absolutely no alterations to the bathroom.

Does your Health mean a lot to him? there's a possibility you COULD sue him knowing your plight / your age & the bath, put that to him, how long have you been there?
Question Author
TheChair,
Thanks, but we would find £620 an impossibilty on our State Pension.

TWR,we have been here 16 years on a yearly Assured Shorthold Tenancy.I agree,we COULD sue,but he would just evict us at the end of the tenancy year.,for causing him aggro.
These are quite popular- nothing needs to be attached to the wall, although it is shown that way on the picture

I'm afraid to say, if the landlord will not help you in anyway, the only way is to move, I'm sorry to have said that.
