We live in a borough of South London and every Saturday morning around 6am the dustbins get emptied along the street. This seems to be an exercise in noise pollution for the dustbin men, as if they resent their jobs so much they're going to make sure we damn well know they're there. Is there anything we do to stop the terrible racket at this unholy hour of Saturday mornings?I've lived in many areas of England and the disturbance hs never been this bad, sometimes here it lasts for 20 minutes and it's driving us crazy!Surely ther are some rules they must abide by when it comes to trying to be quiet? Help!

You're lucky you don't live in Paris - they empty the bins every morning at 5am and then hose and scrub down the streets!

Try calling your local authority and speaking to the refuse department as often they are not really supposed to start until 7 am not sure what applies in your area, and if they are starting earlier than they should then you can complain.  Having said that, they do have to put up with an awful lot, including people who think it is quite normal and acceptable to put bricks and rubble and all sorts of other things into the bin !!   One call should find out exactly what the proper rules and regs are in your area.
