Not too sure where to put this but here goes...

I was sorting out my garage when I came across an old petrol can filled with petrol I used to use for my lawnmower.

I no longer even have this mower so need to get rid of it really.

Is there any safe way of disposing of it?

What grade is it? can't you just put in the car?
The council tips in my area have a tank for the disposal of old motor oil, if your local council tip have one as well I should think that you can pour the old petrol into it.
Is it possible to give it to a neighbor who has a petrol mower ?
Might want to beware of putting it in the car. One can is probably too little to cause a problem but I understand that petrol loses it's explosive power when left a long time. I was told that was probably why I couldn't get my petrol strimmer to fire up.
That is true, OG. Petrol does go off with age.

Thanks for all your replys, don't want to put it in my car just in case, might take it to the local tip and ask there.
Old petrol eventually causes a varnish like surface on the inside of carburettors and is possibly the biggest cause of lawnmower breakdowns.
People leave fuel in the lawnmower over the winter and it solidifies and blocks the jets.
Whatever you do don't put it in your car otherwise you will be back asking why your car wont start !

Your local recycling or amenity site will deal with it !
