Has anyone had a similar problem. Quite often when I wash my husbands sweatshirts or t shirts . The navy or black ones. They come out with reddish purple patches on them as if the dye has been bleached out. I use a non biological powder for colours. Use a 40 deg wash I have tried using a different powder (I use the liquid in the squiggy bubble things)  These are usually designer type labels. It never happens to mine which are high street labels. Whats going wrong.

not sure, but u can always take them back to the shop for a full refund.
Same happens to me at times too maggie - dont know the reason sorry.  The strange world of the washing machine.  Having said that you should start wearing designer labels and let him wear the high street ones.

Maggie, try washing his stuff inside out - at the very least it stops things fading so badly.

This isn't fading though, these are patches of lighter colours that go all the way through the fabric.
I think this is because you have got bleach on the clothing. Bleach on dark blue and black fades the colour and makes the area affected go red. Do you use anything like Vanish or other such product?

hello - does hubby wear aftershave.. this createsthese stains when washed.. only noticed after years of worrying

No I use ariel liquid capsule thingies and comfort conditioner. And in answer to the question about aftershave. My husband always puts it on before he gets dressed. So I am still at a loss to know what happens. I agree it does seem like some sort of bleach but I do not use anything containing bleach in the washing machine.
