We got all our new recycling bins delivered today ready for the start of the multi box recycling. I'm fine with all of it except the 2 food ones. Those of you who have this already, what do you do, do you rinse them out each time you empty then, I feel they're going to get yucky, especially in the summer.

Are you talking about a little caddy and a big wheelie bin for food waste? If so mu mum buys these special biodegradable bags to use in the small caddy, then she ties it up and chucks it in the wheelie bin when it's full, saves keep washing the things.
We get corn starch bags from the council for ours.
There is a voucher in each roll, and when you find the voucher, you take it to the library for a new roll.

Oh brilliant you two, didn't know that. I was thinking they needed plastic liners but that kind of defeats the object. We did get a pack of stuff with them which I haven't opened yet.
It depends on your council....first roll of bags came free, after that we had to buy them. However, most people seem to use ordinary poly bags now...and council hasn't complained.
I think my mum has to buy hers, they're quite cheap though if I remember rightly.
I line my prudie with caddy bags !
We have to buy our own biodegradable caddy bin liners, and all the supermarkets sell them.

I usually give the caddy a little spray and wipe when I change the liner, then every now and then give it a bleaching.

Our caddy lives in the cupboard under the sink, so it is easy to chuck teabags in.

You will get used to it.

You've got room for something in the cupboard under your sink? Swoons
Had mine now for over a year, you soon get used to them. The council supply us with biodegradable bags, but they still get a little bit "whiffy" Jeyes fluid or whatever you've got looks after that side of things. One thing that is annoying though is to see the amount of food that we throw away !! Good luck

OK I've opened the pack now and have got a 'starter' pack of 10 caddy bags. It says replacements can be bought in supermarkets or you can use newspaper or nothing at all. I suppose I will get used to it but agree the piles of wasted food will make me feel guilty.
We get our liners free from the library too, just need to take the voucher from the inside of the roll.

Well, I say free - I expect the cost is factored into our council tax.
Would gladly buy smaller amounts if they were on sale. No butcher or fishmonger without a long walk and a bus journey. Lovely greengrocer who is happy to sell one apple or banana, slices of watermelon, half a cabbage. Guess which shop is the busiest on the Parade?
I think you live in the same area as me Prudie. I got my bins last week and I think they said you can leave a note on the bin and they give you a new roll of bags. I don't have any room in the kitchen for the little bin so it'll have to live outside, it's a right pain. I suppose we'll get used to it as we did the recycling but at the moment it seems like it's going to be a right palava.

Hi Ratty, yes aren't you B'mth?

And yes, where to store all these bins is an added nightmare
Yes I am Prudie. You're right storing these things is a pain in the bum, the bigger one lives in the wheelie bin but makes putting the normal rubbish in awkward and I have no room in cupboards or on the work tops for the little one.
We refuse to use ours - we don't waste food and all peelings, tea-bags etc go on the compost heap. The food bin would contain a few fish/chicken bones and I'm not prepared to buy special liners just for those, never mind the smell in summer.
We have the
We have had the food waste bins for several years and have found the most hygenic way to use them, is to wrap all waste food in several sheets of newspaper. This eliminates most of the smell during the summer, and keeps the bin clean. The bin is washed out with bleach every couple of weeks and then the base lined with newspaper. Never had a problem using it this way.
