Cat Keeps Jumping On Kitchen Tops

For some reason the bloody cat has taken a liking to the kitchen work tops. He never ever used to jump on the sides but now he's on them all the time. I was making a sarnie yesterday and he jumped up right next to me as if it's just ok.

It's gross.

I already use a citric cleaner but that obviously doesn't put him off and I never keep any food out.

Any suggestions to stop the little bugger?

A good clout each time it does it.
Shout, scream, stamp your feet and shoo him every time he does it.

(it won't make any difference, but at least you will feel like you are doing something)

We trained ours with a plant spray set on jet like a water pistol'
You could try wiping your tops with bleach ( or diluted ) cats don't like the smell of bleach.
I'd tap him and raise my voice.
Tony - wrong, some cats love bleach.
Well ours doesn't ummmm. Maybe Evians won't either.
Hiss loudly at it, pick it up and put it down sharply -cats are not stupid -seriously -it will know what you mean -putting cleaner on the surfaces is dangerous as the cat might jump up onto the surface with the cleaner and then lick it off its paws
I didn't realise it until BM mentioned it on a thread. My cat likes bleach...
Don't let him lick it ummmm.
It's the toilets he heads for, or the mop and bucket.
Cats like to do strange things, just to confuse and amuse their owners.
Ours loves the smell of bleach too... it's the ammonia... smells like cat urine.
Water spray worked with mine.
The other thing is put some kithen foil on your work tops, or even better put some bubble wrap with foil on top on your work tops, cats hate it, once they have jumped up on it a few times that should do it. X
The other thing cats hate is orange peel, find a wsucecleaner with orange in it, its worth a try, and it smells nicer than bleach. X
Bl**dy stupid keyboard ^ worksurface cleaner^
I'm going to hiss at mine next time and see what reaction I get!!
My mum used to use a horrible method - she'd put butter on the cat's feet! Find something pussykins doesn't like, for example, start hoovering every time he jumps up
my cat would love that - they steal the butter!!
You could try rigging it with noisy pots and pans. Cat jumps up and upsets the pots and they fall and make a noise.

Remember that you are an intelligent female human and he is a 5kg furr ball - who do you think will win this battle?!
