Can any electricians out there give me a vague idea of how much it would cost to re-wire a fairly small 3 bed house? As in - would I be talking £100's or £1000's?

I'd consider those figures more reasonable than those suggested here!

There are too many variables to quote in this way.
It must be assumed it (existing) is not surface wiring ..
There is an unboarded loft for upper wiring ring/lighting?
Underfloor cavity or concrete/hard floors?
See what I mean?

It will certainly be thousands .. not too many of them tho.

What part of the Country do you live. The prices quoted seem extortionate
to me.

2 - 3k by cert tech for 25+ years use is a good deal
I don't want to be a miserable git ......... but, I have to say to Spacey that cabling really is not "labourer's work". There are so many considerations......
under insulation
clipped direct
run in trunking
near to heat sources
voltage drop
bunched cables etc etc .............

All of these things greatly affect a cable's current carrying capacity. Electricians have to calculate, from these, how much a cable has to be de-rated.
A standard 2.5mm cable in the right circumstances, could carry 40A. In some, pretty normal, conditions, it might be de-rated to 16A.
Then there's zoning..... diversity ........ I won't go on :o)
lol at this thread. If only you knew.
It's not like stringing a bit of lamp flex across your living rooms, you know.

Thanks to all for replies - I'm afraid that there would not be any chance of me running my own cabling as I have back problems. I've just looked at the Building Sheriff, and I think that is very expensive! Thank you, Chris for links.
(Who's chuckfickens?) anyway I will report back to OH and see what he thinks. Hopefully leave it for a while - it's not essential, but it's beginning to get on my nerves after 7 years of livnig in the house, with all the little wiring oddities that we have. Anyway, thanks again to all.
