In Spain many rows of houses have horizontal external wiring, crossing the whole row of houses, whereas in the UK wiring is generally horizontal, either down to an underground main or in the older systems up to overhead cables. So what is the system in Spain that involves crossing houses?

Hi i live in northern ireland and im not totally sure if this is the same thing but in our village and in quite a few around here, our electric cable run from one house to the other, and on each house run kind of under the gutters and towards the wall, not sure what its called! it sticks out past the wall though, one of the cables is just like a heavy steel cable and the others covered in plastic.

Thanks boink, same thing I was talking about. I saw it on a TV programme probably escape to the sun, and had never seen it before, and wondered what services could be run between houses, though where you still have overhead power cables you could run the supplies along a wall splitting off per house.
I have since noticed some on our shops but that's probably for another purpose.
