I have 2 broken light switches in my house that i want to replace so i bought 2 new switches(as you would!).
In the old switches there are only 2 wiring positions with the brown wired at the top and red wired at the bottom. The new switches, however, have 3 wiring points,L1,L2 and com.I have tried placing the brown and red wires both at the top and both at the bottom but the light dont work.

Im sure its something really obvious but can anyone advise why ?

thx.

Hi Mattk, Put one wire in the top marked com and the other wire in L1, it will then work, the switches you have got are 2 way ones, but that doesn't matter, Ray

thanks a lot,Ray.
Did it work ok Mattk ? it should have.

Havet tried it yet but will do.
Just to confirm...does it matter which wire goes to com and which to L1 ?
Mattk, The Normal practice is to put the live wire into "Com" and the oyher wire into L1 but it will work whichever way round you do it,so no it does not matter, Ray
