I read somewhere about putting a lemon or soda something you have around in the house in the dishwasher and then running a cycle to clean it. I don't like the smell of those things you buy, can anyone remember please?

Thanks!

I would recommend vinegar as it really does do a good job and is cheap. It cleans all the hidden gunk as well.

Where do you put it?
copied from a website:

Remove odours in your dishwasher without using nasty chemicals

Instructions & Method

Do an empty run using baking soda in the detergent section and vinegar in for the rinse.
I would say put a cup of Distilled white vinegar in the dispenser instead of dishwasher powder of tablet and do a empty run on the hottest setting.

You can use baking soda and a little vinegar to make a paste to clean inside if you need too, afterwards.
I pour half a bottle of white vinegar in the actual drum of the dishwasher and run the hottest cycle.
