We've put our central heating on to check things out before the cold nights are upon us, Nothing, things are not working. I phoned the heating engineers who serviced it 4 weeks ago & things were fine, they said the system may need a part or a Purge through. mmm! are they having me on? or not, anyone with any knowledge of heating probs?
The part + labour £100, the Purge could be £200 - £500 depending.

You'd like to think they guarantee their work and would at least come back for a poke around to see if they've accidentally disturbed something vital. Call me suspicious but did the engineer ride up on a horse and wear leather chaps?
Where the guys that serviced it GasSafe registered?
im asuming by purge they mean powerflush ? that can often benefit a system but i wouldnt of thought it would cure one that didnt work...Its ofetn an add on to make more money out of a job...
Also im not quite sure how that can diagnose it over the phone and decide it may need a part....
Jemisa ..
What type is it? Combi? Condensing? Oil? Gas? HW Cylinder and tanks in roof?

If it's a combi or a sealed 'System' boiler, check the water pressure on the gauge .. and top up to about ,75bar (cold) and try again.
Stay away from Powerflushes. They are RARELY needed.
They are ONE BIG money spinner.

No Chas it wasn't diagnosed over the phone. We had a service 4 weeks ago. it was mentioned then. He cleaned everything up did what ever had to be done. Said we may need a small part in the near future. But the heating was fine at that time. When I spoke to him today he reminded me of things he may have to do when he comes Friday.
I was a bit dubious thats why I posted here.
But what can I do? Its got to be done I could go to another Co' but how do I know if they are any different... They've got me by the short & curlies really.
Yes Tony to your Q. These people installed the boiler 6 years ago & they come and service it every year. We've never used anyone else.

End of discussion then.
