Cesspits?

Hello there,

just been looking on the title deeds for next door property for house I'm about to buy and it mentions cesspit I can buy the plans to see where said cesspit is/was but because there may be possible subsidence in the ground (ground cracking our side) could a cesspit ever be the cause of the subsidence . There is the chance of course the cesspit is not used now and it was in the past, the other houses all of the same access and location have mains drains etc. But if in the past this did leak could this be causing problems even now.

would be best to get a full test/scan done of the drains to the cesspit and a check of the cesspit itself before you buy.

unfortunately not... sorry not made myself clear its next doors cesspit but I think it may have effected my land not sure, so wondered if there was a chance subsidence could happen in this instance? I haven't bought my house yet and so I dont know next door yet I am just making full investigations into the possible problems now rather than later.
This is the kind of thing that's usually asked by your solicitor in the pre-contract enquiries Whattie......... the present owners should be able to tell you if it's in use etc.
This doesn't happen to be in a rural village in Northants does it?
I know of a scenario exactly the same right now, with a new build for sale next to a cess pit siting in the next property.
get someone to check for subsidence in your home then
It is unlikely that an existing cesspit that has been there donkeys' years causes subsistence.
If the ground is cracked, are you sure it isn't just caused by the dry weather just now.
Is there any evidence of vertical cracks in the walls of the property you are proposing to buy - that is what the concern with subsistence is.
If there is, do as 4getmenot suggests.
