New Fridge

I recently had a new fridge installed. It is very very noisy. I was gven conflicting advice about the length of time I need to wait before switching it on. Engineer who did the installation recmmended weaiting 6 hours, but my manual advised waiting 8 hours. I switched it on after 6 hours. It has now been switched on for about 48 hours and the noise it is making is inordinantly loud. could I have damaged it by putting it on too soon.
