Hi, we have moved into our new house and they have a water meter fitted, does anyone know if we have to keep it as the person living here before was on her own and now there is a family of four adults living here and its so much more expensive to use the water, we would like it taken away as we didnt ask for it to be fitted and its just not economical for us. Thankyou.

I think you may find that once a house is fitted with a water meter it's stuck with it. Unfair in my opinion.

Oh god really, yes it is unfair we should be able to choose wether we want to keep it or not, you sure?
Found this on the OFWAT site. Looks like you are stuck with it.

All houses built within the last few years have had compulsory water meters fitted - it is not optional.

If you buy a house with a water meter you cannot have it removed and go to unmetered water.

If you are unmetered water, and have a meter put in, you can revert to unmetered water within the first 12 months.

Thanks for that, i hate the bloody council. x
Looks like you'll have to pay for what you use :o)
And its nothing to do with any Council.
buildersmate - it may be a council house tamirra has moved into.
Fair point, but its the water company in the area that decides to put the meters in.

No sorry my mistake, i dont live in a council property its private. x
Its going to take some years but eventually all homes will be fitted with water meters. It is only fair after all in my opinion, Why should a person living alone have to pay the same as a house full of people using far more water ???
This way you only pay for what is used.
