I have an electric water heater that heats the water over night. The water coming out of the hot tap is too hot.  I need to turn the thermostat down but it seems that the thermostat is inside the tank. There is no option on the timer panel to turn the thermostat down.  Do you know how to do this?

I dont think there would be a thermostat control inside the tank as there would not be a way of getting to it as you are aware.  Does your tank have an insulator jacket round it I mean the type that is just tied to it,if so are you sure it is not hiding a thermostat control which is held to the outside by a band going round the tank,if so it will have a small dial in centrigrade, turn to the left to decrease.

thanks for your answer.  It does not have a jacket on it. There are no visible theromstat controls.

Can you not decrease the time that the water heater is on for now until you can solve the problem, during a hot spell the incoming ambient water temperatue is warmer than the winter so that it will heat quicker sorry I cannot be more helpful.
