I was blind due to option b

;)

God is not material, I do not belive in god but god is what people create in their heads, so yes to some people God is real, but not necesarily real as in materialised real, God is a thing people look up to, pray to, God is somethign people need to get through stages in their life, if you need God , God is there, if not he is not there, God is what you want it to be.
God is God
I personally doubt there is a God.

Because their is more evidence of why he DOES NOT exist.
You may wish to succintly describe some of your evidence and address it to Professor Antony Flew...

God does or did exist but not in the form that we too often think of:

if you read the bible (genesis) carefully u will note 2 things

1) god made amn in his IMAGE. image refers to physical appearance and therefore god is a  aman like us with probably the same desires.

2) the description of the creation of man is no more than a simple descprition of human cloning.

we forget many things when reading the bible like modern technology was not known to the people that wrote it and that is how they explained it as a miracle and the definition of miracle is something without sientific explanation well in those day sience was almost non existent.

evidently the beings (yes it sais WE will make man in OUR image) that created us have left long ago but their memory is still with us in the bible and some other religeous scriptures and our subconcious. that in my opinion is the basis of god but our imagination and NEED for a superiority to look to and to answer the unexplainable has created a non existent myth.

i do not know if god is still alive or his race is if we r created in his image thenit is possible that like we r doing he has destroyed himself if he were to return today he would not receive the warm welcome that he would of 2000 years ago.

i do beleive in lfe on other planets as there is no sientific reason why the necesary circumstances that created life here should not exist else where.

this is the reason for all the religeons and they r all wrong.

unfortunately man is too foolish and full of pride to admit that he was created as a sientific experiment by a being just like himself or similar (some experiments do go wrong)

sorry to wack the beleivers like this but it is better to know the truth than to be dissapointed when god does not show up to prevent a wave that is of an inestimable power that even we cannot imagine !

There's certainly no adequate argument that can be presented against such a well presented, thoroughly reasoned, factually based rendering of such a laser-like focused thought...

Thunderchild

I'd never thought of it that way before!

tks I've been thinking these things over for yrs and frankly logic is necesary when dabling in these things as it is easy to be misguided by ideas and beleifs so deep imbedded in our minds that we do not realise how misguided we r in these matters.

Is there a GOD? Part one
The question is trivial. Perhaps, unnecessary. Because, MAN wanted GOD. He has created HIM. May be in his thoughts.
But, let us see how essential is GOD to Man.  Man and all of his tribe occupy just a dot on this big universe.  Who gave Man the capacity to think? Who gave the Man a structure? (body).  (According to Darwin, it is by evolution process).  Who created the self lubricating, self repairing system called Man?  Man is not yet sure that there are no superior and intelligent inhabitants anywhere in the Universe.  How far can Man go, if he were to traverse the Universe.  Even with the fastest flying machine, it will take all of his lifetime and more to reach the nearest star. Then, how can he find out whether there is God or not?
You can discuss a topic with your peers if you want intelligent discussion.  Otherwise, it is only argument and counter argument.  No results come out. You can perhaps discuss with Man's superiors (in intelligence etc.) if you can meet them.  When Man has not found one such species so far, how can he decide? Only from religious books written by him or his ancestors?

Is there a GOD? Part 2.

Logic then arrives.  Since the Universe is so big and immeasurable in size, could not ONE entity have created it? Man thinks that, yes, some ONE must have created it.  Man finds, by introspection, that he is not the ideal creation.  He has hatred, anger, jealousy, pride, greed, lust as his qualities.  Man decides that that the superior ONE must not be having these attributes because these are not the desirable or desired qualities in him.  Therefore, he concludes that the CREATOR of the Universe should be above all these qualities.  Since sex means procreation, he has also observed the CREATOR is neither male nor female, has neither beginning nor end, neither is born nor dead. Omnipresent, omniscient etc. IF the CREATOR was (logic tells us that there must have been a CREATOR) pure in all concepts, HE must be called by some name. Perhaps, Man invented the word GOD.
LAWS of Physics tell us that you can neither add nor take away any material from this Universe.  All that Man can do is to change the form.  Evidence of this we are seeing when we see chemicals created by Man, atomic weapons created by Man et al. On the contrary, GOD creates, preserves and destroys effectively.  Nature has ample examples on this. (HuMan cloning is going on; where it will lead is anybody's guess.  We have reminders of Man's capacity to split atom and its consequences). He has created plastics but does not yet know how to dispose it.
It is up to one to accept the existence or GOD or not.  But GOD does not depend on Man's acceptance or otherwise.  The CREATOR IS GOD.  GOD is the CREATOR.

Is there a GOD - Part 3

Man needs GOD in times of stress, strain and despair, which are so commonplace on this earth.  Who will provide that comfort and solace to the needy ones? (Not we, the participants in this discussion, at least.)
Why does Man suffer? Who created the sufferings? A little thought will reveal that Man himself has created the sufferings.  Therefore, only Man should find the solution or answer.  No use blaming God or any other entity, the existence of which Man is not sure.
Introspection, thinking in solitude will provide the answers to every huMan being.  But each huMan has to find his own answer.  No two answers are likely to be similar or same.  If a Man has found an answer to such a difficult question, then, he need not go in search of an external GOD.  Because GOD is there already in Man himself.

some very interesting thoughts !
Clanad, Merlin, I turn my back on this thread for 5 minutes...

Slimfandango

In the light of Thunderchild's posting of 6/2/05, I am reviewing my entire belief system.

It seems that Clanad may have been similarly affected by it.

Most assuredly, Merlin and Slimfandango... how can one possibly stand in the withering light and heat of such well presented logic?

well at least someone is starting to use their heads.

on another note u might like to hear a few more intersting facts: when the israelites were under gods "direction" he helped them conquerer many peoples but he put a condition which was all the gold was to go to god. what does a spiritual god want with gold. do you know that gold is used in technological aplications ? gold is used for making circuit wireing that must not corode like copper does (that is actually a better conductor but deteriorates) and is used in most space probes ecc.

also when god caused the great flood and having killed all mankind exept noah and his family god felt sorry for what he did and threw donw the rainbow in promise that he would never do such a devastating thing again. a perfect god (as all the religeons state he is) does not feel sorry and repent as being perfect he makes no mistakes to repent over isn't this a human trait ?

there r many other things of the sort that allude to gods physical (visible touchable) existence in the bible but at gthe moment no more come to mind but i think i have made the point ?

May I offer an accolade... the sound of one hand clapping?
Thunderchild, I read your posting with interest.
Please can you explain to me the gold analogy...are you saying that in some way god actually *uses* the gold? Is this what you are saying? I suppose, if god invented gold, like he invented man and all the animals including kangaroos, that he must HIMSELF have some use for it, for example, making the jewels which we see often adorned on the virgin mary, or for creating a gold and seamless cloak for his son, our lord and saviour, Moses.
Is this what you are saying?

I am retiring to a monastery now for a prolonged period of reflection. When I emerge, I may need psychiatric therapy.

How could I have been so wrong for so long???? How could I have not seen this???

Adieu (I'm on the BBC now under another name).

slimfandango

please u have not read my posts with that much attention !

where in the name of that non existent god did u read in the bible that god makes jewels for the virgin mary or gold cloaks. u r thinking of pictures u have seen drawn or painted or statues made by men that probably never read the bible themselves !

u see it is the same old problem we have to distinguish between what the bible DOES REALLY SAY and what a man wanting to use it to controll people says it says or implys it says by inventing images that god actually forbids: thou shalt not bow down to engraven images ! well i have seen many people show reverence to imags of course the preist has probably never actually read them the 10 comandments
