Pedantic I know to snswer rhetorical questins but here we go. The Egg came first - 2 creatures quite chicken like (but not chicken like enough to be called chickens) 'had an egg' from which hathed the first creature sufficiently chicken like to be given the title of 'first chicken'
*Hatched
Every time someone asks me that I give the same answer, but they look at me as if I'm mad. I'm so pleased to find someone else thinks like me. I'm not alone!
Birds descended from reptiles (dinosaurs) when they started evolving their scales into feathers. Archiopterix(sp) is the first known 'bird' that has feathers. All other birds will have evolved over several million years, but they used the same reproductive method as the reptiles, the egg. Thus the egg came millions of years before the chicken.

The chicken, then it had a cigarette afterwards!
RebelIXG - thanks!!
there are two answers to this question, 1 (the correct answer) the egg because new species evolve when mutations in parental reproductive cells result in offspring with unique traits.the fertilized egg is the first member of a new species, so the egg comes befor the chicken. 2 (the "correct" answer) the chicken, because god created everything and all the creatures just appeared on the planet.
