OK, so this is really trivial - but it's Christmas - bear with me! I think we all know the story that on Christmas Day during the first world war the soldiers from both sides stopped fighting - came over the top of the trenches and played a game of football. Well my question is - Was it ever documented who won?

I believe that there were a number of isolated football matches, not just the one, Remember the front was extremely long and so it is possible that we all won the football, British and Germans alike.
This is a very moving site giving the whole story of the Christmas 'truce' and the famous Christmas Day football match (matches). This particular one the Germans won 3-2.- and this is the only one mentioned as it now fact and not a myth.

Don't know but I'm sure it must have gone to penalties and the English lost.
