What would you be known as, in religious terms, if you believe in God (a God) as an idea, but don't want to follow a religion?

If you're certain that there's only one god, then 'monotheist' seems to fit.

Why should anybody want to be known as something or other? If someone wants to behave after the teachings of Christ, Muhammad, etc, that's fine - especially if they don't broadcast the fact. When people limit themselves by calling themselves 'Catholic', 'Buddhist', 'Humanist' etc, it doesn't benefit anyone in any way, but merely sets up grounds for conflict.
