I'm 51 now, but for the past year or so ive noticed a decline in my memory. To be more specific, a decline in recalling peoples names. I'm talking about people that ive known for years. Or the names of famous people that ive known of since childhood.
Talking to my mate a few days ago and was going to ask him about how his sister was doing and her name totally eluded me, it was quiet embarrassing for me, ive known her for years. Today I was viewing a few you tube vids and was going to type in the name of a band that Ive liked since the 90's. Just could not remember the band (or the title of the song that I wanted). Came eventually...when I wasn't even thinking about it anymore...but quiet frustrating at times.
^ Just a couple of examples but I'm finding it quiet frustrating at times.
Is 50 the time when memory start to decline?
Anyone else?

Join the club. I used to have on of the sharpest memories but, like you, names now elude me. Can be embarrassing at times. I used to have 'senior' moments, now I have 'senior' hours, or sometimes even days. I'm 68 but I have been like that for a few years now.
I can't remember. It's been a long time since I was fifty. :-)

I'm 66 now, so far no problems which is just as well as since she has been unwell I need to be 'Memory Man' for Mrs B who is having lots of problems remembering things.
I think it's an individual thing, we are all different.
I've never had any . . .

. . er, what was the question?

Thanks Jack Tills and Baldric for replies so far.
Light-hearted question but it is beginning to worry me a bit. Bumped into an old friend a few months ago and had to avoid trying to use her name as I just couldn't remember it. (until later)

Chris, that's exactly what its like tho :-( .....
Everyone I know over sixty has the same problem, just the aging process. I know that exercise can help in slowing down the problem. I don’t do any as I forget to....

Everyone over 60 Dave? I'm only 51 :-(
they say that memory training can slow down this sort of thing
- or the equiv - crosswords, soduku, learning a language .....

( but the difficult is that the people doing those brainy things may not be the set who are gonna have memory difficulties )

the sign you are describing is called
thingey - that one - hoo-jumma-flip ( yeah sorry we have already had that one)
nominal aphasia -

v v common

I forgot a colleagues wife had died the year previously once
very very embarassing .....
Are you sure you're only 51, nailit?
Some memory loss as you get older is normal. (I wanted to refer to the boss of Microsoft in an earlier post this evening and I found that I couldn't remember his name. It was only as I was about to google for it that it came back to me).

It's only FREQUENT problems with SHORT-TERM memory loss that you really need to worry about. (NB: That's definitely MORE than just occasionally finding yourself thinking "What did I come in here for?" That's NORMAL!)

Frequent problems with short-term memory loss can be the first indicators of Alzheimer's disease.
Lifestyle nailit. Bet you don’t do much in the way of cardio workouts, do you go swimming, cycling?
Over doing alcohol definitely fogs the ole noggin.
No offence intended.
Word association works. There was a guy I used to work with. Couldn’t remember his name when trying to explain him to others. Could see his face. His name was Wayne #######. I visualised him to John Wayne
Joking aside. It has only been perhaps this last year that my memory has begun to fade. It's not names with me it's 'things'.

The other week, I put some frozen peas in a saucepan and put the lid on. Later, I turned the hob on but I hadn't put any water in the saucepan. The smell coming from the kitchen was awful!

I don't forget things like appointments and bill paying though, as I am an avid list maker. I made lists and sub lists and sub, sub lists when I was at work and that has stayed with me.
Jesus ... Who the feck is the boss of Microsoft ...

:0(
is it Bill or Steve?
Bill, Steve anything but Sue.
Steve is dead...
A little Elvis joke there ... Than you very much.
