Dear Diary,
Today I left Dublin, Sophie was very sad I said goodbye to mother, whom close to death. I am going to London, I shall become a missionary.
It was one of the saddest moments of my life saying fare well to Sophie, Mother was far too ill to come and say good bye, but I have Sophie, I love her dearly and it will be hard to live without her. Thomas Barnardo
Dear Diary,
I am in England and My Oh My what a dreadful place it is! As I came to were I should be staying I got a dreadful fright , There is a number of children begging on the streets. I have never seen such a ghastly sight! I must do something to help. I shall become Dr, Barnardo and help the younger generations. I will set up a homes for them, upstairs will be beds for them to sleep in and downstairs will be classrooms were they can learn carpentry, tailoring and shoe making. I believe every child has the right to secure and loving childhood. My homes will supply free food and drink for the less fortunate.

Dear Diary,
I have been here a week and dear Sophie has sent me a letter
It was a small piece of work but I read it over and over as if it was a masterpiece by Mr. Dickens. I miss Mother and Sophie so much. I started my reply strait away;
Dearest Sophie,
I�m missing you too, my work is tremendously well, but there may be a change of plan, when I arrived in England, I saw the most shocking thing. Hundreds of children lying about on the streets begging, I shall do somthing!
