Hoping that some of you can help me with this one please.

I am trying to find out what happened to Amelia Joyce Louisa Pretty who was born in Rye in 1879 (parents, Robert and Joyce). I can find her on 1901 Census in service in Streatham. Try as I might, I can't find her on 1911, can't find a marriage and can't find a death. Can anyone help, please?

There are 3 females called Pretty going abroad between 1901 and 1911 but I don't have a full membership of FMP to check these............

Thanks Craft. I'll try that one (I don't have a full membership either, but I suppose I could always treat myself).
I'm intrigued now..............in 1901 Robert is visiting his sister, along with his son Arthur and the census shows him as being married.
However in 1900 in Boston I have Joyce Bothamley/Pretty marrying a Martin Walmsley..................
oooh scandal................in 1899 Robert divorced Joyce naming a William Houldsworth and Martin Walmsley as co-respondents.
Question Author
lol, I know that story. Joyce liked wedding cake!

She ran off with the french teacher of the school where her hubby was head. She married some chap called George (can't remember his surname right now) who was a soldier, having lied about her age (and the fact she was already married). Then a couple of years later she marries a chap called Martin Warrener Holdsworth in Sculcoates. Then in 1900 she marries Martin Walmsley in Boston. In 1901 Robert discovers his wife's dalliances and divorces her seeking custody of their son. In 1901 (I think), she quite legally marries Martin again. All these marriages never got her anywhere, she died in Louth workhouse in 1917.

Her brother was no better. He bogged off to America with the family jewels leaving his wife and young family. Took up with a lady by the name of Nellie Bailey. Then was found with his brains blown out. Took the jury about 10 minutes to acquit Nellie of his murder.
Bloody hell................no wonder her daughter disappeared. I have the divorce in 1899 as shown here...

I see..when she first 'married' Martin Walmsley it was 1899 and she was called Joyce Cattley.
Question Author
Ah, I got the dates a bit wrong! I've got a copy of the divorce papers. Must have been a massive scandal at the time. Her other daughter was quite "well to do", so I imagine it was HUGELY embarrassing - it was in the newspapers too.
Question Author
Thats it! The first chap she married was George Cattley.
Question Author
lol, actually, make that second!!
lol BM...........I'm doing a tree for my sister-in-law and have found the following marvellous name.............Sophia Quaile Blackader
