I,m tearing my hair out over this, looking for the marriage of Thomas Lickes born in Sledmere, and Mary ? she was born in 1832. The marriage would probably have been in Driffield,@1849/1850 They are married on the 1851 census, their eldest child was born in 1852. The Lickes name in itself has thrown up all kinds of spelling and believe me ive tried them all!Any help would be much appreciated.I'm off to bed soon so apologies if I don't respond straight away. Thanks Polly

Was she perhaps a Smith? Their son Robert was baptised at Weaverthorpe as Robert Smith Likes. 10 Nov 1874. they seem to have had a second son Richard Smith Lickes in 1872 who died soon after birth.
sorry not a 'second' son, 'another' son called Robert Smith Lickes,
FMP came up with a marriage Mar 1851 Helmsley, Yaorkshire Thomas Liekes and Mary Smith Vol 24 Page 436a
Mary was from East Newton which is right out on the East Coast, have you looked there for a baptism?
If you look at the original hand written index for the Q1 1851 under Lickes, Thomas Lickes is there, added in at some point shortly after the index was compiled, but, ancestry have not transcribed the entry I don't think and they certainly haven't added it to their transcribed index to be able to match it up to Mary Smith. Find My Past have also mis-transcribed it as Liekes when it is quite easyily read as Lickes , even though it is in a contemporary hand.

Looking at the modern map, what strikes me is that at Sledmere there is Sledmere House and at Helmsley there is Duncombe Park, it is possoble Thomas was working for those estates, as possibly was mary.
I believe Thomas's mother was also Mary and I think he had a brother George and a sister Jane,
They seem to have had a son born and died in early 1861 too called Thompson Smith Lickes.
