Falling Water is wonderful. It is set over a waterfall in very rural Pennsylvania. He used local building material for most of the construction. The interior is very cosy, with lots of earth colours, and natural materials.

The stone floors are the actual stones taken from the river bed. The Johnson Wax company, which Wright designed a headquarters for in Wisconsin, still come in every year, to strip off the old wax polish and replace it, for free !
In the main living room, he built a set of steps down into the river itself, so Mr Kaufmann could take a dip whenever he wanted too ! ::::

It was built in 1919, but looks much more recent. Its built out of preformed concrete blocks, in the same way as the Ennis House ( which was used as filming location in "Blade Runner" )
The difficulty with these concrete block houses is that the material reacts rather badly with the pollution you find in LA. This, of course, wasn't an issue in 1919 ! The Ennis House was also badly damaged by an earthquake in 1994.
The Hollyhock House is easy to visit and well worth it if you are in the area again. Its part of a large art gallery complex. The new tube network in LA stops right beside the house, so it couldn't be easier to get to.
While I am on the subject of FLW, not all his houses were built for very wealthy people. Here are two more that I have visited :::

Again, the interiors are beautiful....lots of natural stone and wood. Also note that all the furniture, carpets, rugs and seating, etc was designed by Wright as well !
If anybody is interested, Falling Water and Kentuck Knob are quite close together, so its quite easy to visit both in the same day.

I was lucky to have a "Architectural Students" tour of Taliesin West. I fibbed a bit but no one seemed to mind ! It started very early in the morning, as it can get very hot in Phoenix in the summer. I also did the same with Falling Water and the Zimmerman House in New Hampshire ! I am quite knowledgeable about Mr Wright, so it wasn't difficult to keep up with all those earnest young architects on the tours !
Taliesin East is also well worth a visit, and his own house there is a delight.

it's such a big country, I'll never see anything. Especially when I devote half my time there to shopping malls (everything's so cheap).
