We call it rock eel - but it can also be called rock salmon or huss. Northerners dont do it - its a Southern thing. What is it with all these rock eel questions the last few days
Also know as white fish.
Sorry, that should be known.

Hiya, I think its hake.

I'd agree with tubeway - I've heard dogfish called 'rock salmon', 'rock eel' and 'huss' before, and sometimes as just 'rock'.

Hake is actually a type of bony fish (in fact, make that very bony - if you've eaten it fresh, you'll know what I mean !!) of the Merluccius family, as opposed to dogfish, which is a cartilaginous fish (as in sharks and rays).

Having just answered this question, and then perused back over the last week's questions (just catching up having been away), I realise now that this is the third time this question has been asked.

Is it some kind of quiz or something?
Are we going to be tucking our tasty, tasty, very, very tasty dogfish into our blanks for the next three months?

Hello brachiopod, the question was in The Sunday Express crossword and the right answer is a huss not a hake I think. Well it fits in so I'm sticking with it!!
