I'm always amazed how people remember this. I have no idea what the first one I bought was.
Mine was Buddy Holly "Rave On"
ooh you're showing your age :D I think mine was Abba, must go check the vinyls out at some point
chicago album 1 then followed by ELP Pictures at an Exhibtion, then D-Purple in Rock, after that it was a Carlos Santana album......
Madness, complete madness

i remember buying the Fame album, i think that was the first

I can't remember the first vinyl record I bought. Some obscure punk record, I would think.

The first CD I owned was Manic Street Preachers - Generation Terrorists. It was the only thing I wanted when I had to offlead a heap of Esso Tiger tokens in a hurry, lol.

I didn't actually own anything that I could play a CD on at the time.
"do you want to hold my hand " the beatles purchased between my 2 brothers and myself, on a dansette record player.
The first cd I had was "3Tenors" it was a prize from the local shop!

Oh dear, Anne. Serious lapse of memory. It was actually called "I wanna hold your hand"
The first CD I bought was Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms, but I think there was a law in the 80's that if you owned a CD player you had to get brothers in arms, certainly seemed that way!
