I've got to be honest with you, Puds, I went into Sainsbury's the other day and they were falling over themselves to find me the things I wanted (namely raita).

I never got that in Spain.
I sincerely hope that it's all about profit. That's the only thing that businesses should ever concern themselves with. (Indeed, that's their legal obligation to their shareholders). Of course they need to 'keep customers on board' by responding to concerns about environmental issues (etc) but that should be the only reason that they bother with such matters.

They only care about profit but understand that good customer care and cheaper prices equals customer loyalty so in essence everyones a winner.
yeh, spain´s not famous for its customer service
Spain is not famous for its animal welfare either.
Hmmmm all these negs about Spain. We've had a house down there on the Costa del Sol for the last 32 years and I haven't had any problems with staff in supermarkets etc. I learned to speak Spanish do you speak it NoMercy and piggynose. In my local supermaracado in our Urbanization I'm always being given little gifts.
xstitcher, i beleive the problem with dependientes is the low salaries, so low motivation, i´ve never lived in costas, only in madrid and cantabria. i´m not fluent in spanish by any means, but get by, anyway guiris stand out like sore thumbs in spain usually,
Well piggynose I always start out by saying "My Spanish isn't very good but I will try and hope you can understand me" It works every time. They seem to be so pleased that somebody is making the effort to learn their language that they go all out to help you.
