I am fascinated when a new culture comes here with all its acoutrements.

My local 'one stop' has quite a few: Strong, Tyskie, Tatra, Specjal, Zubr, Zyweics (pronounced sh-vee-ets apparently).
My favourites: Zweics and Okocim *Mocne (*which means "hard")

Went to Krakow couple of months ago and liked the tyskie. Its on offer in our local shop at the mo, 8 cans for £6, bargain!
Altough hubby reckons more than 5 gives you a lovely hangover!

Tyskie's the white can.
8 tins for 6 quid! I'm moving up there.
Hello MM
Polish beers are excellent. ZYWIEC is pronounced Shivyets (sort-of - it's difficult to get an exact sound on paper as it's not quite "sh" but can't think of nearer). Mocne (pronounced motsne - the "e" is short as in egg) and it means "strong". Good stuff. "Lech" is also good - pronounced Leh - short "e" again.
Now have you tried Polish wodka (voodka)?
They do Tyskie in bottles at Tescos. Polish lager is as high quality as other mid european lagers (German, Czech etc)

Hi Lucca -I did have the pronunciation explained properly by a young Polish friend of mine -I think the sound at the beginning of Zyweic is "zh" like a soft J (as in Brezhnev or the French name Jean) (?)
I haven't tried Polish wodka yet -will do though.
Hi MM. Yes, that pronunciation is better!
Polish wodka will open up a new world for you! The standard one is WYBOROWA (viborova - short "a"); proceed to WISNIOWKA (veeshnyoovka) - morello cherries - like drinking strong fruit juice, then wow wow wow. Look for ZUBROWKA (zhoobroovka) which will have a blade of grass in it from the area where bison live (eastern Poland) (zubr means bison); you may be able to find CYTRYNOWKA (tsitrinoovka) (lemon vodka). You'll never be the same again!
