Dutch Supper - Starter ideas?

My sister in law has decided she wants a "dutch supper" for her birthday. Someone's doing the main course, and someone else will sort out the pudding, and we have the happy task of making the starter.

i have no idea what to make/bring, and no idea what the main course and dessert will be. i need to feed 10 hungry (greedy) adults.

does anyone have any suggestions for starters/appetisers that i could do that would go with just about anything?

Many thanks!

soups are a good starter for lots of people.
And having one pot solves a few problems.
Always lots of it so if there is any spare u can take it home.
If having a Dutch three-course meal for dinner, it would normally start with a soup. Here's a good one from Radio Netherland...

do you have to transport this to your sisters? i'm guessing you do so something easily portable

crab cakes with a chill sauce and salad, you can make it all in advance pack into a box and re heat at your sisters, perhaps have some round of goats cheese to grill as an alternative if people don't like crab
We've done something like this and we all agreed on the menu, otherwise you run the risk of duplicating the first and second courses or making it all cheesy or fishy.....
