I found out earlier that the average fridge/freezer costs about 80 a quarter to run . I think I'll be shopping day to day in Tesco from now on .

You'll spend more than that on the stuff you didn't intend to buy in Tesco's but couldn't resist.

And the milk that you have to throw away because it's gone bad overnight.
don't know what type of fridge hilly.....me electricty bill for a quarter is about 100 so my cooker, tumble dryer, washer etc must run for nothing......

The guy I spoke to at E.ON said 'average fridge' . Ethel I can't spend what I ain't got - right now I ain't got money to pay the bill !

I drink black coffee !
tell me about it Billy i have not long since bought a house to do up and rent out , the only thing in the property is a fridge freezer full of fosters lager, it as cost me 38 to keep that lager cold the last 2 months.

i thought it was a mistake but if that is the average for running a fridge/freezer it must right. :0(
sounds exessive hillyhugger thought they were more energy efficient these days ? my electric bill is never exessive and my washer and drier are on most days plus the kettle is never cold and hours of pc use x
I live in a three bed semi, albeit on my own. I have a huge freezer, a fridge, all my laundry goes in the tumble drier.
I have a large plasma tv and a power shower. I also have an electric cooker, and heat my water up by electricity when the central heating is switched off.
I use a dishwasher every day.

I have just had a large rebate because I paid too much for my gas and electricity - I pay 44 per month.

Make sure your freezer is full at all times - it costs a lot more to run an empty freezer. Plastic carrier bags full of crumpled newspaper is good enough to fill those spaces.
mrs chappie yours sounds good to me but ethels must take some beating !! who are your providers ?? x
Hey pizza, I'm with Scottish Power. I live in a big house so I can expect to pay a lot, but I am energy conscious - switch lights off/computer off/don't leave anything on standby/don't use tumble dryer unless absolutely necessary, that sort of thing.

I'm told I get a discount for paying by direct debit, and also for managing my account online.

Ethel's deal sounds fantastic.
Thanks Mrs Chappie think we all need to be more conscious of the little things like things on standby leaving fone chfgers on 4 hours n plugins it all mounts up x
and def think for a big house yours is a great deal x
look 4ward to seeing who ethels provider is x
why worry about plastic carrier bagsfull of news papers
go down to tesco at 8pm and buy buy buy the yellow stickered items At 90% off
Hey pizza, I also keep my microwave oven switched off, and only switch it on when I am about to use it, as I once read that it uses more power to leave it permanently switched on (power being used to display the clock) than it does when cooking. (Hope you understand what I mean - I've just read that back and it sounds as clear as mud). lol.

I do the same, mrs.chappie, with my micorwave.

Although I am lax with my router and computers - they are rarely turned off, but I do turn the monitor off every time I am away from the keyboard.

I leave the router on all day, but switch it off last thing at night before I go to bed. It's in an upstairs bedroom and I'd be up and down the stairs like a yo-yo otherwise.

I can get you a very large modern freezer FREE OF CHARGE from one of my pals as he gets them from his workplace when they dont need them anymore, but the only drawback is that he works at the CITY MORGUE.
