I have a load of recipes that involve zesting a load of limes or lemons. This seems to take ages with a handheld grater. Is there any other way to do it?

Is zest absolutely necessary in recipes that include the juice too?

afraid not, you don't have to adsd the zest but it really does add to the flavour it requires.
you could try freezing the limes/lemons first and then grating- it'll come off easier but your hands will get cold!
Buy yourself a zester - much much easier than grating, just run it down the surface for perfect zest! http://www.johnlewis.com/230420962/Product.asp x
