How do "soften" the heat in a dish when I accidently used too much pepper?

What's the dish? The only thing I can think of offhand is to add more of everything else, but starches in particular can dull the heat.
stick a whole spud in for a few minutes,that should do the trick.
The raw potato trick certainly works if you've oversalted a dish.

add plain yogurt............works with curry
What a GREAT idea. Never thought of that before...
