I would like to serve complimentary wines with a meal I am cooking tomorrow night.

Any recommendations, please? Only requirements are 1) must be able to get from Tescos and 2) not much red/too heavy.

Menu is

Roasted red pepper soup with parmesan crisps
Duck with charred pineapple and coconut
Ceviche of Tuna and scallop with bloody mary jelly

Pink Champagne sorbet

Fillet steak with madeira, caramelised shallots and dauphinoise spuds

White choc mousse with raspberry coulis, raspberry sherbet and pink peppercorn shortbread.

I think sweet red dessert wines are generally overlooked in favour of white ones. We buy one from Costco the name of which escapes me but I see Tesco sell one called Mavrodaphni of Pattaya. Whilst I’ve never tried it I’d be inclined to give it a go, going by the description. Your menu sounds absolutely delicious, I think your almost sister (she told me) would...

No-one ever got shot for serving this - very decent Sauv Blanc :

Pink and fruity - bit sweet for me, but good for non-wine-drinkers who want a small glass to be sociable :

a dry sherry with soup
a Yalumba Viognier with the duck and would cover the tuna as well.

steak....out with a Brunello

Late harvest Tokaji - and that looks a steal......
If you ignore the daft name, this is actually a very nice Viognier :

I have no improved suggestions that DT and Dave for wine, but just want to say that's a lovely menu, and makes me wish I wasn't so cooking lazy sometimes x
Can't help with suggestions but do hope the celebrations go well - sounds delicious.
"Any recommendations, please?"

Far....far too much on the menu.......too flashy......cut it down by 50% and even then small portions.

Wine......I don't comment on wines which are confined to ...."Tesco's"

Good luck.
Get a decent Rioja or a Malbec (red)
Chablis or Sancerre (white)
Well that's that then. Mushy pea sarnies and a bottle of Blue Nun
Sqad, no need to be a wine snob, Tescos do have some good buys if you pick them out....also the mags and even the Sat Kitchen recommend them sometimes....and more than once than in a Balearic blue moon
I'd go with Chapel Down English Sparkling Brut with the main, Dark Horse Chardonnay with the appetisers and a sweet moscatel with the pudding.
DTC...I am not being a wine snob, it is just that i am not familiar with the "Wines of Tesco" to give an opinion.

Sqad, it is a tasting menu and there is a reason for it. I asked for suggestions on wine, not comments on my flashiness or my menu. This is Food and Drink - not CB. By all means start a thread in CB but otherwise, frankly **** off.

For those of you who have made sensible suggestions or comments, I thank you.
Good God you are going to busy. Good luck and enjoy !
I'd love the recipe for the pudding...
Thank you Barmaid.

Well I have gone for a combination of wines recommended by DTC, Sunny D and Lady CG. Lady CG, I shall post the recipe in due course for your attention!

For those who posted nice comments, thank you - we dont normally eat like this, nor would I normally do a dinner party like this but this is special and I was set a challenge.

Ethandron, thank you. That made me a little tearful. She taught me that I do have the ability and I should not be scared. I shall raise a little glass to her tomorrow night. x

Because so many of you have given good advice and I cannot choose between them, I am going to give BA to Eth, who made me think of an inspirational cook now in the big kitchen in the sky. xx
Having exhausted my supply of cheap plonk from Calais, right now I’m quaffing a bottle of Australian Blaxland Estate shiraz – 2017, priced at £5 from Tesco.

Although not a light red, it has a smooth flavour – and could pass for something more expensive.
Thank you barmaid.
She inspired me too, I have a whole section in my recipe folder under her name.
Enjoy your scrumptious grub x
