can anybody tell me why a belly button is called a belly button other than the fact it looks like a button?

well it looks like a button and it is situated in the belly area can i take my columbo raincoat off now?

Ahhh the umbilicus, are you an inny or an outy matty?

if it was in your back it would be called back button. same for foot, head, etc.

please believe me it was not my question it was my wifes, lol she is 7 months pregnant and hers is now very much an outy mine is still an inny.

matty please reassure her it will go back in once baby is born :)
