slice up a chocolate swiss roll and put in trifle bowl. soak with cointreau or anything else you fancy. slice 4 bananas and sprinkle with lemon juice to stop them going brown then put them on top of the chocolate cake. sprinkle generously with dessicated coconut. cover with custard (make your own or use a tin). whip up some cream and put that on top, then break 4 chocolate flakes into fine pieces and cover the cream with them. takes very little time to make and always goes down well.
It sounds lovely, ethandron! My mum would love it. If I was eating it, though, I think I'd have to substitue the bananas for something else as I have a teeny-tiny phobia of them. Thanks again :o)) x
you could use any fruit you fancy - pineapple, manderin oranges, mango, nectarine, etc. - or a mixture of them all.
it's a trifle recipe that has been passed around my circle of friends for years and everyone does it slightly differently.
have a nice christmas.
Hello whiskey, if you are going to make a sherry trifle, add a drop of scotch to it, it makes a hell of a difference, you can't taste the scotch but it brings all the flavours out, good luck with yours, and have a great christmas xx
My version is sponge fingers spread with strawberry jam then a tin of strawberries with the strawberries layered on with enough of the juice and some sherry to make a soft base.My secret is that I make a pint of custard with a full tin of evaporated milk.,after pouring it over the base I sprinkle with sugar to stop a skin forming.when cold top with whipped cream and whatever decoration you prefer.I use sugar sprinkles. My family fight over who will scrape the last bit from the bowl.LOL
My mum does the best evvvvvver!!
The bottom is double choc chip muffins, then a layer of orange segments (or satsumas, im not to go with my fruits lol!) then custard, cream and crumbled flake on the top! Sooooooo good!
