After reading about everyone's Sunday, I had to look up a Bacon Butty recipies on line. I get the general idea, but some were made withe mayo and others with the mysterious "brown sauce" I keep reading about, How do YOU make bacon Buddies? Is Brown Sauce a condiment like Ketchup but beef based rather than tomato based?
Thanks, from a bacon lover in the US.

...I want to send Eng.Teach some satches of HP sauce through the post....like a red cross emergency food parcle....
Russian needs banning again for suggesting such things.
I'll join ermin in sending emergency supplies of HP sauce to our deprived cousins.
Don't try anything else EngTeach it will spoil your sandwhich.
Ckeck out some of your stores that sell imported food stuffs.
If you cant get that do without.
Fry/grill your bacon to your liking then slap it between 2 slices of bread and enjoy. Simple.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! I had a feeling my question would spark great debate. I love a fried bacon sandwich. Now for the elusive Brown Sauce.... I will have to look in some international stores. I have many students from abroad and they might know what it is and where to find it.

Is Daddies sauce a brand name of Brown Sauce or are they two totally different things? (I spend 1/2 my time reading posts and the other 1/2 googling the foreign "English" terms) :)
Again, Thanks.

I answered my own question by clicking on the links. One of the sites will ship to US. I will have to order it. The wikipedia link also compared it to A-1 sauce which we have here. I'll have to try it with bacon.

Thanks!!!!
A1 is closer than BBQ, but not the same. Which state do you live in?

2 slices of bacon fried or grilled until the edges are slightly crispy between 2 slices of fresh white bread spread with a thick layer of butter , so when you eat it all the butter melts and drips down your chin !!! delish !!

Sense4all... I live in New York in a suburb of Manhattan.

Tonyted.. Sorry about the spelling. School is out so I guess I'm off a bit.

I must buy some bacon tomorrow!!!!!
EngTeach - if you are going to try to duplicate what they have in the UK - you might want to see what kind of bacon they use - NOT the kind we get in our supermarkets. We would have to go to a specialty shop or order it online to duplicate the wonderful bacon they have there!!!

I have to butt in here and say that I agree with everyone who's said that brown sauce is not barbecue sauce. HP and whatnot may make BBQ sauces, but they are not the original which is definitely unique.

For our American brethren, apologies. Not sure if you can buy HP anywhere there so you are really missing out.

I'm up at 4 a.m. and about to have my breakfast which isn't a bacon butty unfortunately.
BBWCHAT is right... traditional American bacon won't make a good bacon buttie. Try a deli for "Canadian" bacon... Still not exactly what we use here, but it saw me through some breakfast emergencies when I was living in the states LOL
Hon, heres the scoop - go to Myers of Keswick in Greenwich Villlage. Definately in stock it's in the condiments list. See the link : Buy some Yorkshire tea to go with your buttie _ de-lish !!!

http://www.myersofkeswick.com/main.asp
And the bacon is best to be dry cured, not over processed and full of preservatives and added water.

White bread or a white roll - not a sub - is the best 'container' for the bacon, and butter or not? - up to the eater, your choice. And on online shop for HP brown sauce is: http://www.britsuperstore.com. Search for 'HP' and you'll find:
Item 16. HP Brown Sauce Handy Pack 285g (Hp Sauce) priced at 1.69 It is the Brown Sauce to go for, not the curry, BBQ, spicey versions Order online and they will be happy to forward this gourmet offering.......and you can get your Marmite, Soreen Malt Loaf, Wotsits, Twix and Jammie Dodgers there too!

And if you like your bacon - get a copy of 'Everything Tastes Better with Bacon: 70 Fabulous Recipes for Every Meal of the Day' bt Sarah Perry - find it on Amazon - and enjoy....!
i have my bacon buttie with melted cheese on it and red sauce
EngTeach - living in New York, you can probably find a shop that sells bacon from the UK - but just in case - here is a website for you:

Melted cheese on a bacon butty just isn't right, I have to add. I don't give a toss what cheese you're using either.
