does whisky lower your blood pressure? I was told by a nurse that I should only drink whisky as all other spirits raise pressure but whisky opens up the blood vessels?
thanks, alf

I have heard that a TOT of whisky each day can help with cholestrol problems so maybe it keeps the arteries clean like Omega 3 does. So maybe there's truth in it... Mind you, porridge is also excellent against cholestrol so as both are scottish which one's right or do you need both? This must indicate that the scots of Britain have less heart attacks!
The consumption of all forms of alcohol leads to dilation of the blood vessels and a short-term drop in blood pressure.

However, the long-term effects of alcohol consumption (irrespective of whether the alcohol is consumed in whisky or in any other form) include raised blood pressure. (There is also some evidence to suggest that there is a short-term rise in blood pressure, to higher than normal levels, as the body 'bounces back' from alcohol consumption).
