I don't know about now, but I used to live in Scarborough (and I wish I still did!), and there were four very good fish-and-chip shops quite close to my home (Cappelman's was my favourite - is it still there I wonder?) And plenty more in other parts of the town. The people where I live now don't know what good fish and chips taste like. So, yes, meaty - I'm inclined to agree with you.

The Magpie at Whitby is an excellent, award winning fish and chip restaurant and takeaway.
There is always a queue and it's not the cheapest around, but it's head and shoulders above the rest.
